Lucy Aiken-Johnson, ASID, one of ai3's founding partners, received the coveted 2008 Design Achievement award from the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.
2008 – The SuperGroup wins ASID Silver
The SuperGroup, a world-renowned interdisciplinary creative agency, won the American Society of Interior Designers' Silver Award in the Corporate Office under 10,000 square feet category.
2008 – SIP wins ASID Gold
SIP, Atlanta's premier urban lifestyle coffee house, won the American Society of Interior Designers' Gold Award in the Retail category.
2007 – Globe Restaurant wins ASID Gold
The Globe Restaurant won the top award, a Gold Award, in the hospitality category of spaces under $80.00/square feet.
2007 – Artistic Image/ Artemis wins ASID Silver
Artistic Image wins a Silver Award in the corporate category for spaces under 10,000 square feet. The project features a unique entry sequence and an above=ground tunnel that serves to separate the private and public areas of the project.
2007 – Small Concept wins ASID Silver
Small Concept, a boutique children’s store, wins a Silver Award in it’s category for retail space under 10,000 square feet. The project features a low-cost solution that uses laminated plywood sheets to express the materials used to display, feature and contain the store’s unique offering of high end children’s gear.
2006 – Remling and Maas Appointed to MODA Board
In August 2006, Joe Remling and Dan Maas were appointed to the Board of Directors for MODA, Museum of Design Atlanta, for five-year terms. Maas is working on the development of an annual fundraising gala event and working with the education sub-committee. Remling has been charged with working on new exhibit selection and the curation of upcoming events.
2006 – ai3 Honored With Merit Award in “The Sustainable Home” Competition
MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta), AIA Atlanta, Southface, and Charis Homes, sponsored a regional design competition to select and build a home that best demonstrates good design, sustainable ideas and building concepts for single-family affordable housing. ai3 received a “Merit Award” for its “Open Air House” design.
2006 - Inman Perk Wins ASID Bronze
ai3 and Inman Perk Coffee were honored with a Bronze Award for excellence in the design of a retail space from the Georgia chapter of ASID. This coffee house is an example of attention to detailed design under strict budget constraints. It features unique usage of laminated plywood as a communal table and an upside down hardwood floor system used as the ceiling over the main area. http://www.inmanperk.com/
2006 - Remling 2006 Keynote for ASID Student Day
As keynote speaker for the ASID Student Day, Joe Remling discussed the importance of design ownership through the design and construction team. Using examples such as the Puerto Rico Convention Center, Georgia Aquarium and Artistic Image Office, Joe emphasized the importance of developing a “story” for projects that everyone can understand and believe in.
2006 - ai3 honored by 2006 AIA Selections Committee
ai3 and their work were honored by the selections committee for the 2006 AIA Young Architects Forum, “Emerging Voices.”
2005 - Koroseal Project Wins ASID Gold
ai3 was honored with an ASID Gold Award for excellence in the design of a small corporate space for its work on Koroseal’s loft offices, located in Atlanta.
2005 - ai3 Wins ASID Silver on Residential Project
ai3 was honored with an ASID Silver Award for excellence in the design of a residential space for its work on 320 La France Street. The loft, located in Atlanta, is a combination of simplicity and style, and has also been featured in several publications.
2005 - ai3 Office Space Awarded ASID Bronze
ai3 was honored with a Bronze Award for excellence in the design of a small corporate space from the Georgia chapter of ASID. The ai3 studio received the award for it’s open plan adaptation of an existing brick loft space.
2005 - ai3 Wins ASID Bronze on Residential Bath ai3 was honored with a ASID Bronze Award, Georgia chapter, for excellence in the design of a residential bath. The award-winning bath was a modern renovation in a historic home in the Grant Park community of Atlanta.

May 2009 – Geiger/ Herman Miller to introduce ai3 designed Peer tables at NeoCon 2009 Working with Geiger over the past year has yielded the Peer table collection. The table was designed to serve as a creative backdrop for spontaneous collaborative meetings. This is ai3's first furniture product design to be released on an international stage.

January 2009 – DWR Atlanta Studio "Design Speaks"

December 2008 – FLIP, Atlanta’s Modern Burger Boutique, Opens
Restaurant industry veteran Barry Mills and former Top Chef finalist Richard Blais, Atlanta’s first modern burger boutique – FLIP – has opened. Both the food and the space harness a modern sophistication with a light-hearted approach toward the dining experience. The design of the restaurant, created by ai3, features a vibrant color palette and modern materials that reflect a playful integration of the term “flip.” Blond wood tables and aluminum chairs create a chic backdrop for the vibrant pops of color that come from the red carpet, while custom wall graphics stand out as vivid elemental works of art.

November 2008 – Aja Opens
Located in the heart of the Buckhead shopping district is one of ai3’s most recent dining creations – Aja. An Asian restaurant concept located in the space formerly home to Emeril’s Atlanta, Aja’s design spotlights the dramatic effects of bold colors and dark woods found throughout traditional Asian architecture. Highlights include an impressive entryway featuring a bed of river stones, a dark stained wood tunnel and Asian artifacts, as well as a modern interpretation of the traditional tori gate, 45 feet of high-backed banquettes and a 2,000 square foot patio space.

August 2007 - Tandus Atlanta Showroom Opens
Designed by ai3, Tandus’ Atlanta Showroom is set to opened in August 2007. A leading global commercial floorcoverings company, Tandus brings together the industry's leading specialized commercial flooring brands - C&A, Crossley and Monterey. ai3 along with the Counts Company, a Chattanooga based General Contractor worked closely with Tandus to convert a dramatic turn of the century trolley barn into a working showroom focused on hands on product interaction and education.

July 2007 - ai3 Partners with The Museum of Design Atlanta
ai3, led by Dave Heimbuch, has been invited to be the exhibition designers for Sewlful: Hip Hop Influenced Threads scheduled to open October 2007 at MODA, the Museum of Design Atlanta. MODA is the only museum in the southeast devoted exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design. MODA examines how design affects our daily lives through engaging exhibitions, K-12 educational outreach and exciting adult programming.

June 2007 - ai3 Designs Inman Perk Coffee’s Emory Location
Designed by ai3, Inman Perk Coffee’s Emory store is scheduled to open in June 2007. Located directly across the campus of Emory University, the design of this coffee shop builds upon the success of the ai3 designed Inman Park location by folding in familiar elements such a warm lighting scheme, natural woods and comfortable furniture.

June 2007 – Remling Partners with Airstream
Joe Remling has joined Jennifer Remling in a partnership with Airstream to author a new book about the pursuit of passion and freedom in our professional lives. Airstream is an internationally recognized brand of travel trailers based in Jackson Center, Ohio. Joe and Jennifer plan to interview a number of professionals in an International CCD Airstream trailer throughout 2007 to learn “how” they have pursued their passion and a carved a successful career.

January 2007 – ai3 secures IQ Interactive Project
ai3 was recently awarded the commission for the design and consolidation of the IQ Interactive headquarters in Atlanta Georgia. IQ Interactive is a new type of agency that specializes in creating interactive broad band web experiences.
November 2006 - Small Concept Grand Opening

October 2006 - MODA Exhibit “To-a-T, t-shirt culture… cute or couture?” Designed by ai3
Featuring t-shirt designs from around the globe, with a special focus on Southern regional designers, MODA has partnered with SCAD-Atlanta to offer an exhibit sure to make a pop-culture statement. October 2006 - Pashmere Opens Retail Store

September 2006 - Artistic Image Opens New Office at King Plow

The article "Georgia ASID Honors Top Designs" recognizes the ai3 team for its award-winning designs. Honors bestowed by the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers include a Gold Award in Retail for SIP, a premier urban lifestyle coffee house. ai3 also received a Silver Award in the Corporate Office under 10,000 square feet category for The SuperGroup, a world-renowned interdisciplinary creative agency. Founding ai3 partner, Lucy Aiken-Johnson, ASID, was also profiled for receiving the coveted 2008 Design Achievement award.
April 2008 – Impact Magazine
ai3's experience and current projects are highlighted in the article "A New Breath of Life for Old Buildings." The article showcases one of ai3's recent conversion projects, the Tandus showroom located in a historic area of intown Atlanta. The Tandus space was originally converted from an old trolley barn into a modern office and showroom for the world-class carpet manufacturer.
August 2007 – Atlanta Business Chronicle
ai3 is recognized for its design of a new urban coffee house, SIP "The Experience". More Lounge than java chain, the coffee house is part of a movement called Third Wave, which promotes local and independently owned coffee shops that serve sustainably grown and fairly traded coffee beans.

ai3’s design for Artistic Image and Artemis Creative was featured in an article that showcased ai3 ability to turn the concept of “shared resources” into the physical realm by using a dynamic
form that links and inspires creativity. The project has since served to create a definitive brand for the client and help them acquire new creative talent on a national scale.
JULY 2006 - “Young Designers” Article in Contract magazine
ai3 was featured in an article titled “Classroom chic”. Two years after the firm’s founding, ai3’s first built work, “The Globe” restaurant, is featured. To quote our client and Owner, "The designers caught on right away," Lowndes says. "They understood how to make the restaurant mod yet inviting through the palette, furnishings, and lighting."

Lucy Aiken-Johnson was asked by Atlanta Magazine’s Home to select her picks for outdoor furnishings. With a focus on contemporary design, the items selected range from lounge furniture to outdoor chairs that create outdoor focal points for the home.

Lucy Aiken-Johnson, mentioned in the article titled “The 27th Annual Interiors Awards,” served as a juror on the awards panel for Contract magazine’s 2006 awards, including their Designer of the Year Award, the 2006 Legend Award, and the 27th Annual Interiors Awards.
